This series of ten individual leaflets provides specific information on some of local government’s more acute skills shortage areas: building control, environmental health, legal work, library and information work, occupational therapy, planning, social care, social work, trading standards, traffic and transportation. The leaflets give details about each occupation, including information on relevant qualifications, potential salary levels and where to access further help.

How could you use the FOCUS ON leaflets?

• Display and distribute them at jobs/careers fairs and related events.
• Ensure that school/careers libraries, Connexions information points and public libraries have at least one reference copy of each leaflet.
• Ensure that local schools, colleges and universities running courses that relate to skills shortage areas receive copies of relevant leaflets.
• Make sure that all relevant local authority departments are aware of the leaflets and use them to promote opportunities within their professions.
• Give copies out at service open days, community consultation groups and other community events.
