The Government has announced 15 projects for the Inspiring Communities initiative across the country that will share a £10 million pot of funding to unlock the talents of young people.
The Inspiring Communities initiative is about getting people in communities working together to boost the aspirations and achievements of their young people. Projects include:
- Community gardening, parental support and advice services, a community youth radio station and volunteer mentoring in Barking and Dagenham
- Visits to university campuses and colleges for local young people in Stoke-on-Trent
- Visits to workplaces, local artists and Dragon’s Den type activities in Kent
- Learning about careers in the Fire and Rescue Service, including having the opportunity to achieve a BTEC qualification in fire and rescue in North East Lincolnshire
- Parent mentoring and help with understanding school grades and study opportunities in Rotherham
- A social enterprise project setting up a community café providing training and work experience for the whole community including growing their own produce for the café in Norfolk
