Public Sector Jobs Week 14-18 May 2007

As well as the National Public Sector Jobs Week Conference for public sector HR professionals on 16th May in London, here are a range of local activities happening around the country to celebrate Public Sector Jobs Week:

  • North East Lincolnshire Council – Recruitment Rally
    Friday 11th May – Job Club Workshop, Immingham Civic Centre, 10am-4pm
    Monday 14th May - recruitment stand, Grimsby Institute, 10am-4pm
    Tuesday 15th May - recruitment stand, Franklin College, 10am-4pm
    Wednesday 16th May - recruitment stand, Victoria Street Jobcentre, 10am-4pm
    Friday 18th May - recruitment stand, Freshney Place Shopping Centre, 10am-4pm

  • North East Lincolnshire Council will also be running three Public Sector Jobs Week competitions:
    Primary schools – design a school crossing patrol uniform.
    Secondary schools – design a poster to promote a career in planning.
    Spot the rogue trawler – The council’s National Fishing Heritage Centre team have reported a rogue fishing trawler in the area.  Note down its registration number and return it to one of the council’s recruitment rally stands (see above) – you could win a prize!

  • East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be running recruitment roadshows during the week:

  • Surrey County Council will be providing local government careers leaflets in all 52 of their public libraries, all of their council offices and sending information to schools.  They will also be providing information on the council’s website.

  • The Lancashire Partnership will be running an event for public sector HR representatives on Thursday 24th May to consider how to increase the numbers of public sector Apprenticeships across Lancashire.  The event aims to raise awareness of current activity and programmes intended to support residents of Lancashire move from benefits into employment.  The event is also a response to the national Public Sector Jobs Week initiative.

  • Norfolk County Council plan to host a professional development placement event at County Hall for careers advisers and teachers.  The event will include elected members talking about their role and council officers sharing their experiences of working in local government.

  • The Public Service Compact in the West Midlands is due to launch its new website during Public Sector Jobs Week.  The Public Service Compact brings together 32 employers in the West Midlands who work collaboratively on recruitment, retention and staff development.  Key to their mission is to tap into pools of unfulfilled talent in inner city areas blighted by high unemployment to attract a more diverse range of new recruits.  Major partners include Birmingham City Council, Solihull Borough Council, West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service.

 

  • Kent County Council are hosting a Careers in KCC event on Wednesday 16th May 2007 at Invicta House Atrium, Maidstone from 10am-2pm.  There will be an opportunity to talk to employees of KCC and to find out about jobs with the council.  The Kent Teacher Recruitment Team will also attend and will be able to offer advice on recruitment in Kent’s schools.

  • North Norfolk District Council will be running a number of promotional events and activities including posters and flyers in public areas such as libraries, recruitment days at local job centres and an insert in the Eastern Daily Press, which provides case studies illustrating the benefits of working in local government.

  • Southend Jobcentre will be setting up a Public Sector Jobs Week display board to highlight work in the public sector.
