Listen up! 11-25 year olds have their say

Youth Charity, the Jack Petchey Foundation, has recently published Listen Up!

The Listen Up survey report brings together the views of over 6000 11-25 year olds, gathered through focus groups in schools and youth projects across the country.

Some report highlights are:

  • The issues most important to young people were revealed as:
    reducing crime (29%)
    employment opportunities (25%)
    local community (22%)
    environment (12%)
  • More than two thirds of young people (68%) said they felt concerned about how the economic recession would affect their chances of getting a job after they finish education.
  • 36% say helping other people is a priority for the future.
  • 45% believe politicians do not genuinely care about young people and only 16% felt young people have a voice in politics.
  • 62% feel that the media do not represent young people as they really are.
  • 75% of young people say they regularly volunteer or help other people.
