It is a great place to live and work whether you like the bright lights of major cities such as Manchester, Liverpool, historic Chester or Blackpool or you prefer the beauty and tranquillity of the Lake District we have everything within reasonable travelling time.

To the north and south of the region we have a wealth of beautiful countryside with tranquil gardens and stately homes and picturesque farmlands in Cheshire and a diverse landscape of mountains, fells, valleys and lakes interspersed with welcoming villages in Cumbria.

In the centre of the region we have the county of Lancashire, which covers 3000 sq km of contrasting landscapes from rugged hills to windswept coasts and market towns. Today many of the attractive Victorian mills and factories, from the industrial revolution, have been converted into housing, shops, offices and hotels.

In addition to all this we have the major conurbations of Greater Manchester and Merseyside with all they have to offer from the innovative Metro link tram system in Manchester, to the birthplace of the Beatles and the impressive dockland development in Liverpool.

With an extensive motorway network and two international airports which make the whole region so accessible, it’s not difficult to see why so many people want to live and work in the region and why the regions 8 major universities deliver over 30,000 graduates each year.

Five county areas make up the region known as the North West: Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. There are 41 local authorities in the area: two county councils; 15 metropolitan borough councils; six English unitaries and 18 district councils.
