Michael, Self-Employed Local Government Consultant
I am currently a self-employed consultant working with a variety of different local councils and local government organisations. I previously worked for Newark and Sherwood District Council as a Personnel Manager. As well as general HR duties, at that time, my responsibilities gradually developed to include work on Best Value and corporate plans.
I now work as an independent consultant covering a variety of issues: strategic planning; senior recruitment; organisational development; job evaluation. I work in a variety of local government organisations including county, district, town and parish councils, plus fire authorities.
I really enjoy the variety of the work, visiting different organisations and meeting a range of managers, employees and HR specialists. Although sometimes it can be a challenge providing the service the client wants.
