Amy, Highways Technician
Isle of Wight Council
I first joined the council as a business administration apprentice in the highways design section. After completing my Apprenticeship, I was offered further training and will shortly begin an HNC in civil engineering sponsored by the council.
My current role involves assisting with the design and management of highway schemes, recording and inspecting highway structures and helping to carry out site inspections.
I enjoy my job as my work changes every day; there are always new things to learn. It can also be challenging, as there are great time pressures and there’s lots going on all at the same time.
