Josephine, Business Administration
Apprentice, Isle of Wight Council
I decided to apply for a Business Administration Apprenticeship with the council, as it not only allowed me to gain a qualification, but also work experience to go with it. To get the job I needed five GCSEs including English and Maths. I also found that my previous experience working in an administrative role was an advantage.
I have been working for the council for about two years now. During that time, I have gained NVQs at levels two and three and have completed the Apprenticeship in Business Administration.
My main responsibilities in my current role are to carry out administrative tasks for my colleagues. I also compile reports contributing to the council’s performance statistics and asisst in dealing with complaints.
The job can sometimes be quite a challenge, especially when dealing with complaints and producing reports, as everything has to be done within a specific timescale. This can sometimes make me feel under pressure, but it does make the job more interesting. I really love the variety of the job, no two days are the same, which is great.
As well as completing my Apprenticeship, I have also received a lot of other training too. I’ve gained the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) and have done courses in customer relations management, digital imaging process and dealing with complaints. I am also currently learning British Sign Language.
In future I hope to stay with the council and progress in my career.
