Council chief goes “back to the floor”

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets was featured recently on Channel 4′s Undercover Boss programme.

Kevan Collins, Chief Executive at the council, needs to make £50million savings over the next three years. The Undercover Boss programme followed Kevan as he went “back to the floor” to find out how the council’s services are really perceived by residents and to see what happens on the front line.

Working alongside his own staff, his true identity kept secret, Kevan delivered meals on wheels, walked the streets with community law enforcement officers, staffed the reception in the housing and homelessness office, worked alongside pest controllers and joined a markets inspection.

The programme shows how Kevan got a real insight into the work of employees at the council and what a valuable job they do. It also shows how committed council employees are to serving their local communities.
