When I first worked in a library, well the first day, it was that clear that this was the right decision, a moment of clarity.
It’s the thing that suits me the most, I love books but I also love working with people, the great thing about the job is there is no such thing as an average day. Everyday is a little bit different.
Wasn’t always brilliant in school, wasn’t always interested in what was being taught. I couldn’t really find anything that seemed to fit what I wanted to do. After A-levels – I didn’t do brilliantly in them, didn’t do well enough to go to university – I did odd jobs, then I did an access course and went to university to do an arts degree. It always seemed to about the next step and hoping something would eventually click. Then I went into Horticulture, it was an okay job, but it wasn’t quite for me, wasn’t quite what I was looking for, and I realised then that I wanted to be a librarian, because I liked it, I never felt unhappy in a library.
It’s good to know you’re heading in the right direction, you know you’re on the right path, as it were, and you’re getting closer to wherever it is you’re meant to be.
