DEFRA launches new skills website

Develop your skills
Increase opportunities
Empower individuals
Improve the efficiency of public services

Visit www.localenvironmentskills.org to assess and improve your skills, find quality training opportunities, progress on your career path and contribute to increased efficiency and excellence in local environmental public services.

As part of DEFRA’s (Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) commitment to help local authorities deliver more effective and efficient local environmental services, the website www.localenvironmentskills.org is being launched today at the ENCAMS annual ‘Cleaner, Safer, Greener’ conference in Manchester by the MP Jonathan Shaw, Minister for Local Environmental Quality.

Everyone involved in managing and improving local environmental quality – from frontline staff to service directors – can use this site to assess current skills and find opportunities for quality training to help to do current jobs better, or progress up the career ladder.

Service Managers and Directors will have access to information and opportunities for developing workforces and ensuring effective service delivery.

This website provides relevant and high quality learning opportunities in all aspects of local environmental management, such as street cleansing, education and campaigning, and enforcement.

DEFRA has engaged a number of expert organisations to help map the skills requirements of the sector, and to ensure the structure and content of the site and the opportunities it promotes are of maximum value.
