Teach first scheme expands to West Midlands
Teach First is an independent charity founded to encourage top graduates, who would not normally enter teaching, to teach for at least two years in challenging secondary schools in London and Greater Manchester. Now this programme is being expanded to include the West Midlands.
Jim Knight, Minister for Schools, last night launched the Teach First programme in the West Midlands. The minister said, “Many of today’s graduates are just as concerned with making a difference as making a million. They want careers which enable them to give something back. Teach First is just such an opportunity… and is attracting talented and inspiring young people who wouldn’t otherwise have considered teaching.”
The Teach First Programme provides graduates with a career that enables them to give something back. The programme is designed to recruit top graduates into teaching roles in challenging schools and support them through a programme of leadership development over two years that will prepare them for leadership roles in a range of sectors in the future. There are not many roles that can offer an opportunity to make a difference along with such a high level of responsibility.
